This is a very fertile time for electronic music infused with traditional classical instrumentation. Yet in this burgeoning field, Nils Frahm stands alone. The German pianist and producer is a classically trained musician who spent his formative years making hip-hop and electronica in his native Hamburg, and to this day he moves between these worlds—or, rather, actively blurs the boundaries between the two with remarkable fluidity and self-confidence.
